Car and Motorbike Travel

The best route from Athens is the National Road via Corinth to Igoumenitsa (472 km [274 mi]), where you take the ferry to Corfu. As on all Greek islands, exercise caution with regard to steep, winding roads, and fellow drivers equally unfamiliar with the terrain. Corfu town has several car-rental agencies, most of them clustered around the port, ranging from international chains to local agencies offering cheap deals. Prices can range from EUR 35 a day to EUR 120 a week for a compact, all insurance included. Chains have a bigger selection, but the locals will usually give a cheaper price. Don't be afraid to bargain, especially if you want to rent a car for several days. You can generally make arrangements to pick up your car at the airport. A 50cc motorbike can be rented for about EUR 25 a day or EUR 100 a week, or a 125cc motorbike for about EUR 30 a day and EUR 110 a week, but you can bargain, especially if you want it for longer. Helmets are provided only on request; make certain you wear one. Check the lights, brakes, and other mechanics before you accept a machine. In Corfu town, try Easy Rider.
