Doma Review

A 19th-century seaside mansion on the eastern edge of town, about a 20-minute walk along the water from the Venetian harbor, Doma is an outpost of Old World taste. The simple yet elegant guest rooms and suites face either the luxuriant garden or the sea and have Cretan-style furnishings and beautiful kilims and fabrics. The top-floor suite, with its large terrace, airy sea views, and pleasant surroundings, is a top contender for the best accommodation in town. Carved-wood sofas and local and family photos fill the sitting room, and an exquisite collection of headdresses from around the world is displayed off the wicker-filled garden room. Breakfast, a lavish spread, includes fresh breads, homemade jams, and yogurt with a Turkish topping: a delicious mix of spices, quince preserves, and honey. On request the gracious owner will prepare a traditional Cretan dinner for guests or nonguests and serve it in an airy upstairs dining room.
