Getting Here and Around

By Air

From Athens there are plenty of direct flights every day, which take 50 minutes and cost around EUR 50-EUR 70 one way; Olympic has three flights a week to Samos. Two Samos flights a week connect with Thessaloniki. The Samos airport is 3 km (1 mi) from Pithagorio; taxis from the airport cost EUR 15 to Vathi or EUR 9 to Pithagorio.

By Boat

The main port of Samos is Vathi, also known as Samos. Ferries from the Piraeus and Cyclades usually stop at both Vathi and Karlovassi (Samos' second port) and take 10-13 hours and cost EUR 25-EUR 35. During high season, there are usually two ferries to Pireaus, three to Chios, five to Naxos and Paxos (with transfers available to Mykonos and Santorini). There is usually two ferries a week to Patmos and one to Rhodes. For hydrofoils, there are three sailings a week to Mykonos, and three to Patmos, Naxos, and Paros. Fares range from EUR 15 to EUR 42. By Bus

Samos has excellent bus service, with frequent trips, as many as eight daily, between Pythagorio, Samos town (Vathi), and Kokkari. Samos town is home to the island's main bus station (22730/27262), located at Ioannou Lekati and Kanari in central Samos towns. Fares range from EUR 1.5 to EUR 3. Taxis can be hailed on Plateia Pithagora.
