Travelers bored with bland, business-hotel decor may get more excited by this mod lodging's snazzy design. Everything -- from the multimillion-dollar art collection on the walls to the whimsical red-and-white carpeting and even the cups and saucers -- is the work of one man, American artist Donald Sultan. Encompassing one new building and four 18th-century baroque houses on the Buda riverfront, the art'otel adroitly blends old and new. Rooms are on the small side, but some have splendid views of Fisherman's Bastion and the Matthias Church.

Good choice on the Buda side

A comfortable room with a beautiful view across the Danube. Agree with BizTraveller that breakfast is good but nothing to rave about. We found the staff to be friendly and quite helpful.

Rooms with a view

Great location, right at the danube. If you have a room facing the danube you have a great view to the parliament building. Pitty that you can't open the window because the street is so noisy. The rooms are standard and value for money, if they don't charge you more than 100 EUR per night. The breakfast is standard and good, but nothing to rave about. The service is a bit raunchy at times.

Loved the Art'otel

We stayed here in September 2005 and loved it. It's on the Buda side with close access to the castle (up a steep hill) and a 15 minute walk to Pest across the river. The breakfast is great and served in a lovely atrium. They upgraded us to an absolutely enormous suite (room 809) with a beautiful view out the back -- it's by far the largest hotel room I've ever stayed in. There's a nice bar in the lobby and the staff are very helpful.
