Just inside the doors to St. Malachy's Cathedral is a memorial to its chief benefactor, Captain Thomas Griffiths. The church, designed by Thomas Jackson, was built in 1844, and its interior is well worth a viewing. Pay particular attention to its fan-vaulted ceiling. Although many of the original fixtures and fittings have succumbed to the ravages of time, this swirling masterpiece of plasterwork survives intact. Inspiration for the design was taken from the chapel of Henry VII at Westminster Abbey in London. Note the 150-year-old church organ.
