Flemings Restaurant

Flemings Restaurant Review

On a hillside overlooking the river, this stately Georgian house is set in extensive grounds, which include a kitchen garden that supplies the restaurant. Classical French food is the forte of owner-chef Michael Fleming, and it's served, appropriately, in a dining room decorated in the French Empire style with plush Louis XV-style chairs, gilt-frame mirrors, and crystal chandeliers. Local ingredients are important: a starter of panfried foie gras is accompanied by black pudding from West Cork and glazed apple; it's a favorite with the regulars. Other standout items include the grilled monkfish from Fleming's hometown, Courtmacsherry, served with a basil oil dressing and red wine sauce, and the fillet of beef with wild mushrooms, red onion confit, and red wine sauce. Ask about the special-value dine-and-stay package at this "restaurant with rooms."
