Hidden away on a tiny side street is one of Cork's favorite restaurants. Its windowless interior, with its warm cream-colored walls and curved art deco-style bar, is carefully lighted to soothe and make you forget the world outside. Sisters Jacque and Eithne Barry have run the place for 25 years, and know their business. Food is always sourced locally from artisan food producers, so it's as fresh and wholesome as it comes. Jacques's cooking lets the flavor shine through, whether in a starter of smoked chicken, fennel, and orange salad, or a main course of roast breast of duck with potato stuffing, red cabbage, and apricot sauce. For dessert try the fruited bread-and-butter pudding, or indulge in a chocolate-and-hazelnut torte. There's a special-value two-course dinner menu at €24.
