A genuine institution, Ireland's largest hotel is one of those landmarks where nearly every Irish person seems to have spent at least one night (or so they claim). In high contrast to the hotel's impersonal, 1972 glass-and-concrete facade, the staff here is famously friendly and attentive. Public rooms, especially the large bar, have mahogany counters and hanging plants that enhance the conservatory-style setting and take the edge off the uninspired building. The generous-size rooms, furnished in modern minimalist style, with neutral tones, have large picture windows. At night, Annabel's nightclub and the seasonal Irish cabaret are both lively (sometimes too lively!) spots. The Burlington has no sports and health facilities, but the Doyle hotel group, which runs it, has an arrangement that allows you to use the RiverView Sports Club in nearby Clonskeagh for EUR 6.35 a visit.
