Harbour Master

$-$$, Contemporary, Northside

User Rating: ** 1.8

Fodor's Review:

You just have to look out the window to understand why this big, airy restaurant and bar in the Irish Financial Services Center north of the Liffey is so popular: it overlooks the serene and calming canal basin. At lunch the place is packed with stockbrokers and lawyers; dinner is more subdued. You can dine bistro-style at the cavernous bar, but it's better to head for the more spacious -- and relaxing -- dining area. Try the blackened salmon on a basil polenta mash, served with sautéed chorizo and poppy-seed yogurt dressing.

Worse than Dreadful

Posted by Jennifer from Dublin, Ireland on 8/25/06

Charmless, overpriced, dirty are just some of the words that spring to mind when I think of the Harbourmaster. Having spent 4 years working directly across the road in La Touche House, many an evening was spent by my colleagues and I in this haunt - mainly because there really was not much choice of venues in the area - I am glad to say this has now changed. The table staff are slow, bar staff even slower and in need of a crash course in good Manners, food is poor, drinks are over-priced, and girls, if you are wearing a good top, DO Not put your elbows on the tables in here - you will find (as myself and friends did on many occasions) that when you go to move them, a couple of attepts should un-stick you. That's right - the tables are filthier than filthy. And like me, if you judge a bar/restaurant on how clean it's toilets are - this place would not even pass a mock test. The "aroma" that greets you on the way downstairs to the facilites is vile - probably due to the location of the bar however it would not endear you to return. Try the new Ely Wine bar across the road if you want a great evening with wonderful service, delicious & reasonably priced food, not to mention the fantastic choice of wines. Extremely well managed - Ely could teach the Harbourmaster a thing or two.

After work bar

Posted by Michael from Dublin on 8/25/06

The Harbourmaster, although located in an interesting building, is an unexceptional bar that relys on a fairly captive after work crowd. The barmen are very slow and the table staff seem over-streched. Had a few work lunches there which I cannot remember which is probably indicative of its lack of distinction. Avoid, if possible.
