Oozing a memorable, offbeat charm, with its chunky stone buildings, stone-built garden terrace, semi-wild garden, and stunning coastal views, this family-run establishment is just outside Baltimore, surrounded by wild gorse and above Roaring Water Bay. More like a Continental pension than a true hostel, its stone outbuildings (originally farmyard structures) house the communal kitchen and some of the unpretentious, cheery guest rooms. Café Art, the contemporary yet rustic restaurant ($-$$), offers local produce, steaks, and seafood. The menu prepared by chef Johannes Haffner includes Continental treats – beef Stroganoff cooked with vodka, for example, and Flemish apple tart – along with innovative contemporary dishes like mussels steamed with lemongrass and ginger.
