Tom and Mary Treacy come from a long line of Killarney hoteliers, which explains their professional approach. The house is in a strip of newly built, depressingly standardized B&Bs that have sprung up between the town and Muckross Park, but this one is different. It was built in 1992 in a gracious Edwardian style, with square bay windows beneath high gables and a redbrick ground floor, promising a spacious, comfortable interior. Tea and homemade cake are served to guests on arrival in the drawing room; guests can also enjoy a large conservatory that overlooks the garden (Tom is a keen gardener). Bedrooms are luxuriously furnished with coordinating fabrics, and better equipped than many hotels. The home-baked goodies on offer have made Mary's breakfasts legendary.
