The ruins of the late-16th-century Mallow Castle are at the bottom of the main street, freely accessible behind ornamental gates. The castle was burned by the Jacobites in 1689, and its stables were later converted into a house, which is still in use as a private home. From here you can view the white fallow deer that are unique to Mallow and were presented by Elizabeth I.
