For an alternative to country estates and village hotels, make a beeline for Frenchman Paul Chatenoud's remote cottage B&B overlooking Ard an Ratha, the Atlantic, and some spectacular Donegal scenery—it's one of Ireland's most beautiful little guesthouses. Apart from the cozy hideaway main house, the four spare guest rooms are set in a converted stone outbuilding with a thatch roof. Oozing charm like his premises, the owner loves his guests and eagerly directs them to Donegal's best-kept secrets (he also serves 20 different types of jams and marmalade at breakfast; try the Irish whiskey one to kick-start your day). To reach the hotel from Ard an Ratha, follow the sign for Donegal and turn right after 200 yards.
