Ischia's newest, yet oldest, luxury hotel, originally opened in the mid-19th century, and reopened in 2006 after four years of restoration. It was here that so-called "thermal tourism" began, in one of the largest spas in the south of Italy -- the bath where Giuseppe Garibaldi bathed is conserved in a corner. Sybaritic is the word to describe the decor: hypercolorful mosaic columns, gilded Stil Empire furniture, and lots of Las Vegas-ian glitz. Needless to say, the staff is ready to pamper you with every kind of beauty treatment imaginable, and you can top it all off in the open-air roof pool, surrounded by Ischia's rich vegetation. The restaurant is ambitious.
