Lying just below Punta Tragara at the base of Capri's impressive offshore rocks (the Faraglioni), this is the place to enjoy a delightfully comatose day on the island. Given its position right on the water's edge, seafood is almost de rigueur. For a slightly different starter, try the polpette di melanzane (eggplant fritters), and then dip into the vegetable buffet. Highly recommendable is the house sangria, a blissful mix of white wine and fresh fruit. If you're overwhelmed by large portions of pasta, order half portions (and pay half). La Fontelina also functions as a lido, with steps and ladders affording access to fathoms-deep blue water. Access is by boat from Marina Piccola or on foot from Punta Tragara (10 minutes). Only lunch is served. Across the way is the archrival lido-restaurant, Da Luigi, with a more evocative setting but now a bit too famous for its own good.
