Domus dei Tappeti di Pietra (Ancient Home of the Stone Carpets) Review
This archaeological site was uncovered in 1993 during digging for an underground parking garage near the 18th-century church of Santa Eufemia. Below ground level (10 feet down) lie the remains of a Byzantine palace dating from the 5th and 6th centuries AD. Its beautiful and well-preserved network of floor mosaics displays elaborately-designed patterns, creating the effect of luxurious carpets.
