You can take a boat tour of Genoa harbor with Cooperativa Battellieri del Porto di Genova. The tour, which starts from the aquarium pier, costs EUR 6, lasts about an hour, and includes a visit to the breakwater outside the harbor, the Bacino delle Grazie, and the Molo Vecchio (Old Port).

A bus tour of Genoa with an English-speaking guide is a good way to see the city and its panoramic upper reaches. A coach leaves every afternoon at 3 from Piazza Caricamento, by the port, and does the Giro Giro Tour, a two-hour narrated loop of the city (EUR 15). It's operated by Genoa's municipal transport company in conjunction with the agency Macrame Viaggi.

Individual or group walking and hiking tours can introduce you to the lesser-known aspects of the region. For the Cinque Terre and the rest of the Province of La Spezia, the Cooperativa Arte e Natura is a good source for well-trained, English-speaking, licenced guides. A half day costs approximately EUR 150.
