In front of this Milan classic is a sluice from the Naviglio (one of the canals that once crisscrossed the city) where the washerwomen who gave the street its name used to scrub the clothes of Milan's noble families. Now the Navigli area is filled with bars and restaurants, of which Il Brellin is one of the more serious. It offers a mix of homey classics, such as pasta rustiga and rigatoni sautéed with pancetta, as well as new twists on typical ingredients – a pumpkin tart as an appetizer. With its several small rooms with exposed beams, Il Brellin is cozy in winter. But on a nice Sunday, enjoy the brunch buffet at an outside table.
