Locanda di San Martino Review

Combining good taste, agreeable surroundings, and excellent value, the Locanda is a prime place to stay among Matera's Sassi. The historic rooms—formerly cave dwellings—have been impeccably restored under the guidance of owner Antonio Panetta and Dorothy Zinn. An elevator whisks you to your floor, and a short walk outdoors takes you to your room. Stepping out onto your terrace overlooking the old town is like being on a movie set. What was once an old cistern has now been turned into an indoor swimming pool with a sauna.
