Fodor's Review:

Here you can find about all you could ask for in a Rome hotel: charm, taste, and the good fortune to look out onto one of the best museums in town, Palazzo Barberini. The marble-floor lobby is light and welcoming, and upstairs each room is furnished with fixtures designed exclusively for the hotel. The breakfast buffet (not included in the price of the room) on the rooftop is in a league of its own: fresh, delicious, and copious. The creative management often has special deals for dinners, theater tickets, and the like on offer, so make sure to ask.

Deceptive booking practices

I contacted the Hotel Barberini to get the rate of a standard double room. The desk staff informed me that they do have double rooms and if I wanted there was just one remaining with a balcony for 310 euro (this is for October high season). I went back to check the hotel's booking system and found internet specials whereby double rooms were shown to be available for my stay at 242 euro. Upon emailing back the hotel the same person replied condescendingly informing me that I am visiting in high season and that if I checked their website it says those lower costing double rooms were based upon availability. However, their system did show availability, but this person did not wish to acknowledge this. He tried to push the double room with balcony instead as it cost much more. I would have been fine if he had just told me that balcony rooms cost more than standard double rooms which is sometimes the case-sometimes not-instead of trying to make it look as though I did not understand. This desk clerk also was insistent that I should send my credit card information which I felt was very rude because it seemed as though he did not wish to answer any questions I had and all he wanted was to get the room sold. This attitude soured my interest in staying here. In addition, the desk personnel who was in contact with me continuously tried using words that made no sense in context; it appeared that he wanted to make a huge impression on me by inserting words that he felt were appropriate but in actuality made absolutely no sense in his messages. He even went so far as to say that their hotel is all over the web meaning that they are so popular. How pretentious is this! I really would suggest anyone who is interested in the Barberini to be very sure about what type of room and at what nightly rate you are booking before surrendering your credit card details.
