Sant'Anna in Camprena
Sant'Anna in Camprena Review
Part of the acclaimed 1996 film The English Patient was filmed at this former Benedictine monastery where you can view frescoes by Sodoma (1477-1549) in the dining hall and in the room where the eponymous patient lay in bed. It's best reached by car or bicycle, as public transportation isn't available. For the world-weary, extremely plain rooms are available in the austere silence of the monastery. Double rooms with private bathroom and breakfast are €80 per night; those without private bathroom are €65. To get here from Pienza, take the road to San Quirico for 1 km (½ mi), then turn right at the sign for the monastery.
