$, Dorsoduro
Fodor's Review:
Only a streetlamp hanging above the entrance marks this waterway inn, which, in spite of its low-key looks, won the hearts of John Ruskin, Peggy Guggenheim, and Italian poet Gabriele d'Annunzio. Rooms have worn decor, inexpensive furniture, and good contemporary paintings left by the many artists who have stayed here in years past. Though a romantic view of the canal or the pretty internal garden and a durable reputation as a den for artists and literati keep the Locanda full all year long, the bargain rates are its primary appeal.
