Fodor's Review:

A favorite with rock musicians -- of both the punk (Sex Pistols) and country (Emmy Lou Harris) persuasions -- the Wiechmann's main claim to fame is announced by a gold record displayed in the lobby, the pride and joy of the owner, John Boddy. There are delightful personal touches, like a teapot collection and framed Delft blue tiles, throughout the lobby and adjoining breakfast room, and fresh flowers are everywhere. The maze of hallways through the hotel's three buildings lead to guest rooms of wildly varying sizes; these are plainly decorated but enlivened by quilted bedspreads and floral drapes. Some have bedside tables covered by rugs (an old Dutch tradition). It's worth the extra money to get a room with views over the canal. Pros: smiling staff, spic-and-span rooms, quiet location. Cons: rooms are a little tiny, no restaurant.

  • In-hotel: bar, Internet terminal, public Wi-Fi, some pets allowed, no-smoking rooms.

We loved the Weichmann. Yes, it could use just a little TLC, but was it lacked in glitze, it made up in charm, helpfulness of staff, the delicious breakfasts, and location. I'd go again in a (New York) minute.
