Guest rooms in this gorgeous historic building with gable roofs, Romanesque balconies, and half-moon windows are surprisingly though attractively modern. Many rooms have balconies and almost all have views: of a lovely garden, a canal, the Royal Palace, or the tower of Westerkerk. Light sleepers should opt for the garden view, as Dam Square is nearby and the surrounding streets are noisy. A narrow steep staircase up to the reception area may be an issue for anyone not up to a climb.
