Amsterdam Restaurants

Blauw Review

Located a bit off the beaten track on the other end of Vondelpark sits Blauw, reputedly—many believe—the best rice table (rijstaffel) in town. Set along the rising culinary boulevard of Amstelveenseweg, this shrine to one of Holland's favorite taste sensations recently got a make-over: out went the traditional Indonesian batik interior and then arrived an array of lacquered red walls to accent giant blowups of vintage family photos and the like. The result is fun, today, and hip. More color comes from the menu's choices, which range from €26.50 for the vegetarian rijstaffel to €31.25 for the meat, fish, and veggie option; both are fresh, well-spiced, and full of exotic flavors. Note that you can also order a la carte dishes. For those who want memories-in-the-making, ask the waiter to use the staff camera and then check the restaurant's Web site the next day to download a photo of yourself and your party at your table.
