This important Bergen institution, one of the largest museums in Norway, is made up of the Lysverket, Rasmus Meyer, and Stenersen collections. They are housed in buildings along the Lille Lungegårdsvann lake. The large, neoclassicist Lysverket building used to house the municipal power company, but was bought by the city council and reopened as an art museum in 2003. The permanent exhibit showcases both medieval icons and Dutch Renaissance masters, but there's also a large collection of classic and contemporary Norwegian art on display. The changing exhibits usually feature contemporary art.
