Røros Museum (Smelthytta)

Røros Museum (Smelthytta) Review

Røros Museum is in an old smelting plant, opened in 1646. In 1953 a fire destroyed the smelting works in Røros; the plant was closed and the machines were moved to Sweden. "Smelthytta," the smelting house, has been reconstructed using drawings of the workshop from 1888. Exhibitions show models of waterwheels, lift mechanisms, horse-driven capstans, mine galleries, and 19th-century clothing.
