One of the city's hottest restaurants, Oro ("gold" in Spanish) was opened by celebrity chef Terje Ness in 2000. Ness has since resigned following a fallout with the restaurant's investors, but Oro's unique Mediterranean menu and cool airy design remains. Large chandeliers hang over tables surrounded by slip-covered chairs. Contemporary art hangs on the walls and a fireplace burns at eye level. You can order à la carte or try the Taste of Oro prix-fixe menu (a 7- or 12-course dinner). Specialties include steak, game, and fowl. For dessert, savor the delicious Chocolate Oro -- chocolate mousse with passion fruit, topped with gold leaf.
