Vibrant, warm, and intense, the orange- and yellow-splashed interior captures the character of this Mediterranean restaurant-bar and its celebrity chef, Sonja Lee. Fresh from successes in London and Provence, Lee and partner Laurent Surville (also a chef) opened Magma in April 2000. It has become one of the city's hottest restaurants, attracting everyone from businesspeople to artists. The changing menu is based on seasonal ingredients and follows the owners' philosophy of rough-hewn simplicity. Consider the ricotta ravioli and the spit-roasted veal with macaroni gratin. There is also live jazz on Sunday starting at 11 AM.
