The hotel has just the right mix of old-fashioned charm and new-fangled amenities. Public areas such as the lounge and library, with its daily newspapers in English, and the Windsor Bar are full of turn-of-the-last-century details; streamlined guest rooms are loaded with modern amenities. Some are rather small and rates can vary; it's worth checking for bargains. The D. Pedro II restaurant, which serves Portuguese cuisine, was recently given a modern makeover.
