The Old Moscow of Bolshaya Nikitskaya Ulitsa

Bolshaya Nikitskaya ulitsa is one of the many old streets radiating from the Kremlin, spokelike as Tverskaya ulitsa to the northeast and Novy Arbat to the southwest. The street was laid out along the former road to Novgorod, an ancient town northwest of Moscow, and is divided into two sections. The first part is lined with 18th- and 19th-century mansions; it begins at Manezhnaya Ploshchad, across from the fortification walls of the Kremlin. The second section, notable for its enchanting art nouveau mansions, starts at Nikitskiye Vorota Square, where Bolshaya Nikitskaya ulitsa intersects with Bulvarnoye Koltso (the Boulevard Ring).

Bolshaya Nikitskaya is served by the Krasnopresnenskaya, Barrikadnaya, Okhotny Ryad, and Arbatskaya metro stations.
