About 10 minutes from the seaside town of Cullen, this bed-and-breakfast in a handsome Victorian house was once the headmaster's house for the local secondary school. Well-chosen antiques decorate the spacious rooms. Evening meals are served on request at £22 per person. The village of Fordyce, with narrow streets that follow a medieval plan, lies among the barley fields of Banffshire like a small slice of rural England gone far adrift. You can stroll by the churchyard or picnic on the old bleaching green (a notice board explains everything).
