This handsome but homey Victorian manse situated in wooded grounds is not particularly posh or spacious, but everything from the well-polished dressing tables and ironed sheets in the bedrooms to the creamy porridge "stirred clockwise" in the mornings (or bacon and eggs, if you prefer) is done just right. The place is popular with walkers, so don't be surprised to see tired but inspired guests relaxing in front of the fire in their stocking feet.
