Argyll and the Isles: Places to Explore

Appin

The little peninsula of Appin, some 20-minutes' drive from Oban, is a charming, well-kept secret. Just 2 mi along a narrow road from the main Fort William route (A828), the bay opens to Lismore and the sea. Castle Stalker, a privately owned castle on the water, sits magnificently in the center of the picture, a symbol of ancient coastal Scotland. This is an excellent, uncrowded base for walking, fishing, water sports, and cycling. The Appin Rocks, on the headland, are frequently visited by seals.
