Inveraray Castle

Inveraray Castle Review

The current seat of the Campbell duke is a smart, grayish-green turreted stone house with a self-satisfied air, visible through trees from the town itself. Spires on the four corner turrets give it a vaguely French look. Like the town, the castle was begun around 1743. Tours of the interior convey the history of the powerful Campbell family. There is a tearoom for snacks and light lunches. You can hike around the extensive estate grounds, but wear sturdy footwear.
