Merchant City Review

Many of the city's most important Georgian and Victorian buildings, many built by the tobacco merchants, are found here, as well as elegant designer boutiques and trendy eateries and pubs. The City and County buildings on Ingram Street were built in 1842 to house civil servants; note the impressive arrangement of bays and Corinthian columns. To see more interesting architecture, explore the roads off Ingram Street—including Candleriggs, Wilson, and Glassford. It tends to be a little more rundown and remote toward the southeast. Stick to well-lit, well-traveled areas after sunset.
