Haroldswick

Haroldswick Review

In the far north of Unst is the town of Haroldswick, with a heritage center and a post office that's proud of its status as the most northerly one in Scotland. Named after King Harold of Norway, it was at this sheltered bay that the Norwegians landed in AD 875 to claim the islands.

Unst Boat Haven. Reflecting Shetland's maritime heritage, Unst Boat Haven displays a collection of traditional small fishing and sailing boats. Beach Rd., haroldswick, ZE29EF. 01957/711528. www.unst.org. £3. May-Sept., daily 11-5.
