A cheery space in what was once the darkest Raval, this hotel places the adventurous traveler in the middle of one of Barcelona's most cosmopolitan and traditionally tumultuous neighborhoods. (Gat is Catalan for cat, and xino for chino or Chinese, referring to the Raval's infamously seedy "Chinatown.") Rooms are bright white-on-white (bedding, walls, and laquered furniture), with bold accents of lime green. The fresh design is uplifting and so are the room rates. In the bargain, you may discover that the Raval and its raucous street life are inhabited by some of Barcelona's friendliest citizens.
