Casa Fuster Review
Casa Fuster is one of two chances (the other is the Hotel España) to stay in an Art Nouveau building designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, architect of the retina-rattling Palau de la Música Catalana. His last project, built in 1911 at the bottom of the village of Gràcia, shows a tendency toward the more classical Noucentisme that followed the decorative delirium of the Moderniste movement. The rooms and public spaces reinforce the Moderniste theme with Gaudí-designed chairs, trencadis (colorful broken tile) floors and door handles, and Art Nouveau-inspired lamps and fixtures. In the lobby, undulating lavender sofas echo the arched windows. Rooms are similarly unrestrained, with striped linens and cobalt-blue chairs. The hotel restaurant serves fine Mediterranean cuisine, while the sumptuously decorated Café Vienés was a historic meeting place for Barcelona's movers and shakers of the early 20th century.
