About the Beaches

Santander has excellent sandy beaches, and the beach at Laredo, between Santander and Bilbao, is one of Spain's best and least known. Between Bilbao and San Sebastián, the beach at Lequeitio is particularly beautiful, and the smaller beaches at Zumaya, Getaria, and Zarauz are usually quiet. San Sebastián's best beach, La Concha, which curves around the bay along with the city itself, is scenic and clean, but packed in summer; Ondarreta, at the western end of La Concha, is often less crowded. Surfers gather at Zurriola on the northern side of the Urumea River. Hondarribia, the last stop before the French border, has a vast expanse of fine sand along the Bidasoa estuary.
