Farmhouse Stays in Catalonia

Dotted throughout Catalonia are farmhouses (casas rurales in Spanish, and cases de pagès or masies in Catalan), where you can spend a weekend or longer. Accommodations vary from small, rustic homes to spacious, luxurious farmhouses with fireplaces and pools. Sometimes you stay in a guest room, as at a bed-and-breakfast; in other places you rent the entire house and do your own cooking. Most tourist offices, including the main Catalonia Tourist Office in Barcelona, have info and listings for the cases de pagès of the region. Several organizations in Spain have detailed listings and descriptions of Catalonia's farmhouses, and it's best to book through one of these.
