Pizarro

Pizarro Review

On the main plaza in a small, quiet, and elegant upstairs dining room, this friendly restaurant focuses on traditional Extremaduran home cooking—for lunch only. The two sisters who run the restaurant do nearly everything themselves. A long-revered house specialty is the gallina trufada (truffled hen), a sweet-salty recipe with Moorish roots that includes cognac, black truffles, and nutmeg—it was once a common Christmas dish in western Spain, but the Pizarro sisters are among the few restaurateurs who know how to prepare this recipe today. This is a truly authentic place, a real gem.
