Don Gaiferos

Don Gaiferos Review

Tucked away behind the Rúa Nova's columned porticos is one of Santiago's most distinguished restaurants, equally popular with tourists and locals. The exposed stone walls and tile floors lend it a certain medieval charm, yet the food represents a decidedly up to date interpretation of traditional Galician ingredients: langostinos con salmón ahumado (jumbo prawns with smoked salmon) and vieiras con arroz a la marinera (scallops with rice and a seafood-based white-wine sauce) are among its many delights, and they are complemented by white Ribeiro and Albariño wines. Should you still have room for dessert, the tarta de almendra (almond tart) and the tocinillo de cielo custard are irresistible.
