Car Travel

Driving in the Berner Oberland allows you the freedom to find your own views and to park at the very edges of civilization before taking off on foot or by train. If you are confining yourself to the lakefronts, valleys, and lower resorts, a car is an asset.

But several lovely resorts are beyond the reach of traffic—and train, funicular, and cable-car excursions take you to places ordinary tires can't tread; sooner or later, you'll leave the car behind and resort to public transportation. Remember that Wengen and Mürren are car-free. The site www.route.search.ch offers detailed driving directions and maps in English.
