Driving in eastern Switzerland allows you to see the best of this region; Highway 13 goes along the south shores of the Untersee and Bodensee and continues up through the hills to Appenzell. In cities, such as St. Gallen nor Schaffhausen, you'll find it easiest to head directly for the center and abandon the car for the duration of your visit. Try to get into a parking lot, as finding a spot on the street can be difficult.
