Löwengraben Review

For something completely different, spend a night in jail—which is what this hotel was until as recently as 1998. Bright paint, comfortably simple beds, modular bathroom facilities, and the odd antique furnishing take the blues out of the jailhouse and replace it with funky charm—while still leaving its bars in place. Although the rooms are small—cell-sized, in fact—the fun atmosphere that radiates from the downstairs bar adds to the draw. There's even a suite in the old warden's office, with a large barred window.

    Jailed!

    I stayed here while on a trip across Europe and it was an okay hotel. I wasn't the biggest fan of staying in an old jail cell, but it was a cool idea. The location wasn't too out of the way, and Luzern was a great city, but maybe next time I'll stay somewhere else.
