Getting Here and Around

Operators of SMC (Sierre Mollens Crans-Montana), the funicular and bus service that connects the town of Sierre with the famous ski and golf villages of Crans-Montana, make it a snap to find the funicular departure point for a speedy ascent to the sunny communities. Once outside the rail station, cross the street and look for the red lines designating the pathway. Follow the red lines on the five-minute walk through the central business district to the funi. The ride (12 minutes) in roomy red-and-white cabins delivers passengers to the Montana side of town, where free shuttle buses disperse guests to hotels and chalets. If this transfer seems too cumbersome, board the SMC motor coaches waiting in the parking area adjacent to the station for a half-hour switchback ride through vineyards and forest (12 SF). Once you're here, car traffic is almost always heavy, so it's best to get around on foot or shuttle bus. As in other resorts, signs point the way to the hotels.
