Resting on a shelf above Vevey, The Charlie Chaplin Heritage Site (scheduled to open sometime in 2007) has taken over Manoir de Ban, a compound in a wooded area on the outskirts of Corsier. It was here that the world-famous comedian and his family lived as private citizens. The manor and outbuildings have been converted into display centers for memorabilia and private papers. Walk the hallways of this retreat; pause in front of the showcase housing Mr. Chaplin's signature bowler hat and three-piece suit to reflect on the enormous character who defined comedy for the 20th century. Reels of film from the silent era run in the 200-seat movie theater while an outdoor stage is the set for current day theatrics. The gardens offer quiet spaces enjoyed by the individual whose work continues to bring laughter to the world.
