Sports and the Outdoors

As you drive along the highway, you will see sunbathers lounging on rocks jutting out into the lake and swimmers playing on the stony beaches. It's difficult to tell if they are on private property or have public access. There are swimming areas open to everyone that include a mix of facilities—toilets, showers, changing cabins, and snack bars—but lifeguards are only at the pools, so be careful. Slippery rocks, drop-offs, and water traffic on the lake require special attention.

Bassin de natation. The indoor pool at Bassin de natation is open most of the year; there's also a beach at the port. 13 pl. des Anciens-Fossés, La Tour-de-Peilz, Vaud, 1814. 021/9770307.

Jardin Doret. Access to the lake, a generous lawn with a children's play area, and a snack bar are among the pluses at Jardin Doret. Off Pl. du Marché, Vevey, Vaud, 1800. 0848/868484.

Vevey/Corseaux Plage. West of Nestlé headquarters, the Vevey/Corseaux Plage has both lake swimming and two large pools, one indoors, the other out. 19 av. de Lavaux, Corseaux, Vaud, 1802. 021/9212368.
