In Cappadocia, you can see the open-air museums and major valleys in two days but you may want to spend several more days just soaking up the enchanting landscapes and enjoying the region's comfortable lodgings. Don't go out of your way to spend vacation time in Ankara, but if you do find yourself here, while away a day in the city's few worthwhile sights, most notably the highly regarded Archaeological Museum, repository of the best archaeological treasures found in Turkey, and Atatürk's Mausoleum, the Anitkabir. All the Hittite cities can be seen in a day trip from Ankara if you have a car. You can see Konya's famous museums, mosques, and seminaries in half a day, and you may want to use the city as a stopping off point if you're traveling between Cappadocia and Antalya or elsewhere on the Mediterranean coast.
